Filters, distance and sorting
The Filters drawer does the same job as the sentence, with menus. Your location is the pin button in the search bar; Suggested can introduce a mix of nearby dealers; Nearest first and Newest first are available in the Sort menu.
Everything the sentence can express, the Filters drawer can too. It slides in from the right; the button at the bottom shows how many results you will get before you close it. Changes apply as you make them, no reload.
Distance and the map
Your location lives in one place: the pin button in the search bar. Click it, enter a zip or a city (or use your current location), and pick how far you are willing to drive (10 to 250 miles, or any distance). The button then shows the place and the drive, the results say what they cover (for example "Within 30 mi of 33460"), and the page address carries both, so a shared link searches from the same place. With no location set, the results cover every lot we index. Distances are straight-line from the center of your zip to the dealer's address as published on the listing; we use public Census zip centroids, so a zip we do not know shows a note and results come from everywhere. The map beside the results shows matching dealer lots across the result set, up to 150, with the nearest shown first. Hover a car to find its lot, or click a pin to see its matching cars.
The drive time next to each distance is an estimate from that distance, not a route. Once you have searched with a zip, a listing page shows how far that car is from it.
Places outside our coverage
Coverage grows state by state. Choosing a place we do not cover keeps your location and selected distance, even when you also search for a make or model. The notice names the states we cover. Choose Search all covered states to remove the distance limit and see matching cars across them; the location control then says Any distance.
Sorting
Suggested is the default. For searches such as "SUV under 25k" or an exact model match, it starts with up to three matching cars from each of up to twelve dealers, taking turns between dealers. These cars stay within five miles of the nearest match; without a location, they were first indexed within a day of the newest match. The rest follow in the usual distance or newest order. This mix is limited to the opening results and does not hide any matching cars.
Fuzzy or partial model matches, extra words such as a trim, and searches of a particular dealer, lot or map area keep their existing matching order. Choose Nearest first for strict distance order, Newest first for the most recently indexed listings, or switch to price (either direction), mileage or model year. Every sort keeps your filters.
Applied filters
Each active filter shows as a chip above the results. Click the x on a chip to drop just that filter, or Clear all to start over. The URL updates as you go, so a results page can be bookmarked, shared, or saved as a search.
Keyboard
Press / or Cmd K (Ctrl K on Windows) from anywhere to jump to the search box. Arrow keys move through suggestions; Enter runs the search; Escape closes the menu.
